CSO's Message

The 21st century's climate crisis demands a global transition to zero-carbon energy sources. To overcome this challenge, we require more than just resources; we require clean, high-capacity, high-density, and reliable electricity production from knowledge-based energy sources such as fusion.
EnableFusion proudly stands as Korea's first fusion startup, boasting technical expertise from the development of KSTAR—a world-leading superconducting fusion research device—and the ITER Project, which involves seven major developed countries, including Korea.

In partnership with worldwide fusion developers, supplier partners, and fusion research institutions, we are spearheading efforts to secure safe and abundant energy through fusion development.
Our collaborative approach allows us to meet the complex challenges of this groundbreaking field.
I extend my sincere gratitude to all who have shown interest in EnableFusion and explored collaboration opportunities with us.
We look forward to your continued engagement and support in this transformative journey towards accelerated fusion commercialization.

01

Fusion Commercialization Bottleneck

The supply chain has emerged as the primary obstacle in fusion commercialization, presenting a complex set of challenges for the industry:

  • Most fusion developers, typically startups with innovative ideas and investments, lack in-house manufacturing capabilities.
  • There is a global shortage of precision manufacturing companies capable of meeting the exacting requirements of fusion technology.
  • The scarcity stems from the hollowing out of related manufacturing industries over the past two decades, driven by nuclear aversion and market contraction.
  • Fusion developers grapple with quality, cost, and delivery issues in the sector.
  • This situation is particularly challenging for fusion startups that need to undergo multiple rapid development cycles.
  • The lack of adequate manufacturing support not only hinders individual companies but also risks decelerating the overall progress of fusion technology towards commercial viability.
02

Korea’s Strength in Fusion Supply Chain

South Korea holds a significant position in the global fusion supply chain, built upon several key factors:

  • World-class precision manufacturing capabilities honed through experience in defense and nuclear sectors, refined through involvement in major fusion projects like ITER and KSTAR.
  • Global reputation for manufacturing fusion devices with exceptional quality, optimal pricing, and rapid delivery times.
  • Wealth of experienced human resources in the field.
  • Geopolitical situation enhancing its attractiveness as a supply chain partner, offering a compelling alternative in the context of US-China strategic competition.

Compared to other countries, South Korea offers:

  • High-quality manufacturing capabilities that the US lacks in this sector
  • Better price competitiveness and delivery speed than European countries
  • A more robust workforce than Japan's aging talent pool in relevant industries

These factors position South Korea as a key player in addressing supply chain challenges for fusion technology commercialization, making it an integral part of the global fusion supply chain landscape.

Fusion Engineering Platform: Bridging the Gap

At the core of EnableFusion's solution is the Fusion Engineering Platform (FEP), which acts as a crucial bridge between fusion developers and suppliers. This innovative two-sided platform connects fusion startups and Private-Public Partnerships (PPPs) with Korea's precision manufacturing and specialized IT companies.

EnableFusion provides three FEP Categories:

  • FEP for Fusion Components and Systems:
Streamlines the process of designing, manufacturing, and delivering critical fusion components, including digital re-design and re-engineering services, to ensure that components meet the exacting requirements of fusion developers.
  • FEP for Fusion High-Temperature Superconductors (HTS):
Leverages South Korea's expertise in HTS wire, cable, and magnet manufacturing to develop and produce advanced superconducting components crucial for fusion reactors.
  • FEP for Fusion AI:
Harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to optimize fusion reactor design, operation, and maintenance, drawing on the capabilities of Korea's specialized AI companies.

By leveraging South Korea's world-class expertise in precision manufacturing, high-temperature superconductors, and artificial intelligence, EnableFusion is poised to provide fusion components to fusion developers more easily, affordably, and rapidly than ever before.
